My Favorites: Skin Care

Living in Los Angeles, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel the pressure to keep my appearance looking youthful. I’m no stranger to med spas and dermatologists and I’ll admit I’ve dabbled with a treatment or two here and there. Of course, some of the best ways to keep your skin (and entire self) looking and feeling young and healthy are to eat well, exercise, stay hydrated, avoid extreme sun exposure, avoid substances (alcohol, drugs, smoking), and get plenty of rest and relaxation.

But supporting your skin by caring for it properly with a morning and evening pampering routine is absolutely important, too!

I’ve also experimented with super high-end skin care products… We’re talking $200 per bottle and up. And that’s for just ONE bottle of ONE product. Buying the entire line (face wash, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, etc) could easily climb over $1k. I don’t know about you, but I consider that a steep bill to foot for something I have to replace every couple of months. What usually ended up happening with me is that I’d buy one expensive product and then be using Neutrogena for everything else.

Don’t get me wrong, i do like Neutrogena products. But I recently discovered another skin care line that I LOVE. We’re talking I am now head over heels. And I would have been the last person to guess what brand I ended up falling for!

Here are 5 reasons why I love my current skin care line:

  1. I can buy the ENTIRE LINE (face wash, serum, eye cream, day and night cream) for as much as I would spend to buy ONE product from some of those uber luxe lines pushed at med spas and dermatologists’ offices.

  2. This brand uses the same ingredients and protocols as the med spas’ and dermatologists’ treatments and products.

    • Retinols and Resveratrol
Retinols and resveratrol are some of the most powerful anti-aging compounds out there. I actually take a trans-resveratrol supplement orally, and I love that resveratrol is a primary ingredient in this skin care.

    • Glycolic Acid
I’ve had glycolic acid peels here and there at med spas and dermatologists’ offices over the years. I also used to use a very expensive 20% glycolic product from a dermatologist’s office that I found in my early twenties and was the only thing that EVER truly stopped my breakouts. With my current brand, I can do glycolic treatments at home for half the price, and I get the same tingly feeling - and clear, refreshed looking skin - that lets me know the product is working.

    • Microdermabrasion
Again, I’ve done microdermabrasion treatments before as well, and this is the only at-home version I’ve ever found that even comes close to the real thing.

  3. This brand is free of synthetic fragrances and has a natural line free of parabens, pthalates, etc.

    • This is important to me both because I believe in reducing our exposure to toxins as much as possible, and also because I believe in doing right by the environment and our planet.

  4. This brand empowers women not only by supporting them in creating successful businesses, but also by giving back to causes such as fighting domestic violence.

  5. My skin looks and feels AMAZING using this brand.

    • My skin feels super soft and the lines on my face have relaxed since using this brand. Additionally, I have struggled with chapped lips as far back as I can remember (I’ve tended to chew at them). Nothing was working. I had tried Blistex, Carmax, Aquaphor, coconut oil, drinking more water, you name it. I was highly skeptical that this brand would be any different. However, I purchased the Satin Lips Set (a sugar scrub and shea butter balm) and my lips HAVE NOT BEEN CHAPPED SINCE!

So what brand offers all of this and more?

If you’re like me, you probably wouldn’t have guessed that it’s MARY KAY.

If you have any prejudice or skepticism, I invite you to suspend it, do yourself a favor, and CHECK THESE PRODUCTS OUT.

You won’t regret it. I, for one, am all in.
